Skagway is accessible by road via the Alaska-Candian Highway. It is approximately 91 air miles away from Juneau, Alaska. The community has an estimated population of 816 people and is 454 square miles in size. Skagway is a major destination site for travelers of all kinds. Many cruise ships will visit here on a daily basis during the summer season. Skagway is known for its history as a drop off point for miners seeking Dawson during the Klondike Gold Rush. For air medevac services, Skagway is accessible via an airport and the Skagway Fire Dept. The Skagway Fire Dept. is very accomodating in transporting Air Medevac crew and patients to and from the location of the patient. Patients are usually found either in the medical center of a cruise ship or the Skagway Clinic. Skagway is also accessible via the ferry system, the Alaska Marine Highway.
