Commercial Structure Fire - Commercial Blvd. |
On June 2, 2002 Capital City Fire/Rescue was dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire at a storage facility located off of Commercial Boulevard. Upon arrival of the first due apparatus, heavy smoke was visible coming from the structure. A second alarm was sounded for additional personnel. An attack team made entry to the building and found fire in the ceiling. Crews were sent to the roof to begin ventilation operations while crews on the ground attempted to search and extinguish the fire. Firefighters found that the fire had spread throughout the attic space and due to the intense heat were forced to back out of the structure.
Additional personnel and equipment were dispatched in addition to the Douglas and Auke Bay Districts who moved an engine up the Juneau and Glacier Stations for coverage. Off duty paid personnel were called back to assist with fire operations and to staff ALS units.
Engine 11, Engine 13, Engine 33, Truck 12, Truck 32, Rescue 1, Medic 2, Medic 4, Utility 11, Utility 31, Fire 4, Fire 5, and nearly 60 personnel from all five districts responded to call.
