A rescue team was organized within CCF/R to provide technical rescue services within the City and Borough to areas adjacent to the road system and on glaciers. Rescues outside of the City and Borough and in the back country will remain the responsibility of the Alaska State Troopers.
The Rescue Team is comprised of CCF/R career and volunteer personnel who have been selected by the team and have received special rescue training. Members of the team are required to practice and perform the required skills at regular intervals to ensure competency as Rescue Team Members.
Examples of situations that the Rescue Team responds to:
People/vehicle over an embankment
Glacier hikers, ice climbers
High-rise, i.e. trapped in elevator
Mt. Robert Tram
Avalanches
Cruise Ships i.e. ramps, lifeboat hanging
Airplanes
Confined Space Rescue- CBJ Public Works
