The Auke Bay/Lynn Canal Fire District consists of 22 dedicated area residents who give their time freely to keep the Auke Bay and Lynn Canal areas safe. Out of the 22 volunteers in the district, 14 of them are trained to respond to medical and trauma related emergencies. Although we reside approximately 11 miles Northwest of downtown Juneau, Alaska's capital city. We function as a district of Capital City Fire Rescue. In this light, we provide mutual aid to the Glacier Fire District. We are located in a region that is comprised of lakes, rivers, glaciers, mountains and islands, and our department must reflect that type of service. As a result, members of our district also belong to specialty teams such as dive rescue, rope rescue, and swift water rescue. Our EMS providers include: 5 ETT's and 9 EMT's. We maintain our high level of care by training together at least 15 times a year and respond to approximately 1800 calls throughout the City and Borough of Juneau. As EMS providers for Capital City Fire Rescue we must also keep a full fire training schedule, which totals another 25 team training opportunities. With each drill lasting at least 2 1/2 hours, we are effectively spending at least 100 hours out of the year training together as a team. This teamwork helps to insure that we meet our goals, which are to assure that the citizens and visitors of our beautiful area have access to reliable, expedient and competent prehospital care.
