The Juneau-Douglas EMS Squad is comprised of approximately 15 members, all of whom have met the CCF/R requirements for providing patient care. CCF/R patient care requirements, for ETT's and EMT I's, are that they must attend 8 drills per year and per quarter, complete 8 hours of ride-along time in the ambulance with career staff. EMT II's must complete twice the amount of training hours as ETT's and EMT I's and must also attend 5 run reviews per year. These requirements are in addition to all fire training sessions that they participate in as volunteer firefighters. The Douglas Fire District has acquired an Automated External Defribulator (AED) that all Juneau-Douglas EMS Squad personnel are certified to use. The AED is carried on Rescue 21.
Other responders include volunteer firefighters who are there to perform rescue duties and provide support. Support duties include, but are not limited to: extrication, fire suppression, rope rescue, and driving ambulances.
